Connecting the Dots

The opportunity to develop a ministry for coaches’ wives came as a surprise. But then, as I’ve come to understand over the years, God often opens doors when we least expect it. It is only afterwards that we realize He has been working all along the way in His perfect timing connecting the dots in your life.

The first dot along my journey to this point began 40 years ago when I became the wife of a coach. I had no way of knowing at the time how much my husband’s role as a coach and my role as a coach’s wife would shape and affect our lives together. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed some of the greatest thrills, greatest heartaches, and even greater blessings together as he coached, and we raised our two girls.

Beyond the Bleachers, the name for this ministry for coaches’ wives, is what I now understand and see as another one of the dots God has connected in my life. For years, I had a yearning in my heart to bring coaches’ wives together. Though I felt and saw the need, for one reason or another, I always dismissed, made excuses, or ignored the feeling each time it came to me. But when your dreams are a part of God’s dreams for you, in His time, he will connect the dots – in a far greater way than you can ever imagine for yourself!

The Holy Spirit works in and through us to connect the life dots between our heart and God’s. He’s the connector between our problems and God’s solutions. When we humbly go to God in prayer and ask Him to help us take the next step, or make the next decision, or choose the next response, He will faithfully lead us to the next dot with wisdom through the power of His Holy Spirit.

We are excited to see how God will use this ministry to transform hearts, homes, and communities, and build His legacy both on and off the field and court.

In those times when you feel you can’t possibly see the road ahead or even try to understand where it is going, rest assured – the Creator of the universe is working on your behalf and planning far greater things for you than you can ever imagine for yourself.

He is connecting your dots.

Connie Davidson has been a coach’s wife for 40 years married to longtime Oxford High School varsity basketball coach and AHSAA Hall of Fame Coach, Larry Davidson, who now serves as Oxford’s Athletic Director. Connie is a former elementary school teacher, reading specialist, and district coach for Oxford City Schools, who now works with Curriculum Associates managing professional development across the country. They have two married daughters and three grandchildren who complete their home team.

Though her coach’s role has now changed, Connie views her time now as God’s nod to her that now is the time to put into practice all He has laid on her heart over the years in her “coachwifelife” – the joys AND the struggles – how to “make the bitter sweet.” Now is “her” overtime with founding and directing Beyond the Bleachers.

She often refers to her coach as Coach Honey, and they truly love their school and community. Most any night of the week, season after season, from one sport to the next, they can be found in the stands and on the sidelines cheering for the Oxford Yellow Jackets. They have no doubt God placed them together where they are and intended for them to stay. How else can you explain one coach in one school doing what he loves for 40+ years?

Only God can do that!
